The wilderness in Canada is an integral part of being Canadian. Whether in our past-times like fishing, hiking, and hunting; scientific research and pharmaceuticals, or the billions of dollars it brings in annually through tourism, Canada’s wildlife helps us identify with who we are.

However, as we constantly expand our reach across the country, we find ourselves encroaching on wildlife and encountering situations that were very rare only a few decades ago. While we sometimes find ourselves stumbling upon a wild animal’s home territory, we just as often find animals exploring our territory in search of food.

Industry Safety Wildlife Awareness course aims to teach us how to respect wildlife, reduce encounters that could lead to its destruction, and if all else fails, to deal with an encounter to protect yourself or those around you.

Bear Monitoring

Having wildlife experts on staff who are also well-versed in management techniques is not always possible for companies and jurisdictions that require such services. The team at Industry Safety is proud to offer consultation services and contracted wildlife specialists who can assist when you fall victim to wildlife-related safety issues, whether they be outright aggressions, annoyances or public hazards.

Industry Safety’s approach is multifaceted. Not only do we educate our clients and their communities on wildlife safety in order to reduce the occurrences of intrusion but we also have well-trained staff with specialized knowledge in all of the best non-lethal wildlife deterrent techniques to decrease the risks to both humans and the wildlife at the same time. Our approach is long-term relationship-building with industries and communities who want to keep spaces safe for everyone.

Wildlife Monitoring

Industry Safety’s services are not limited to bear monitoring and assessments alone. We also offer monitoring as it relates to other potentially hazardous wildlife who are either in need of protection from humans, vice versa or both. Wild animals of all varieties, including large ungulates such as moose, elk, caribou, and others, require a non-lethal approach to ensuring their protection as well as that of the humans around them. Similar to bears, such wildlife can be deterred from entering populated areas using aversion techniques such as rubber bullets, noise deterrents and portable fencing, among others. We can provide assessments prior to taking such measures to offer appropriate education on the wildlife hazards relative to the risk level.

Bear Hazard Assessment

If your industry is accustomed to working in the wild, there is a possibility that bear hazards could be a real concern for you and your staff. Industry Safety offers bear hazard assessments that include worksite inspections, reducing or eliminating potential bear attractions, offering a hazard level system to workers while educating them of safe practices and precautions to take in light of their hazard level and finally, bear-proofing the job site. At the end of the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report which summarizes our findings as well as offers suggestions for future strategies and plans of action.

Beaver Control and Trapping

In areas of where beavers inhabit, Industry Safety offers control services to ensure that the damage they can inflict on an area through dam construction is limited. The innate drive in beavers to build lodges and dams can lead to flooding, forest damage, problems of drainage, and damage to existing infrastructure, food crops and human homes. Their activities can sometimes even put other wildlife at risk. If they do not have enough natural predators in these locations, their populations and construction can get out of hand quickly. Industry Safety is proud to provide services such as humane trapping, relocation and dam destruction to eliminate any potential risks and damages caused by beavers in an area.

The evaluation includes a written practical exam and the practical bear spray exercise (Inert training spray is used.)
